Race
Topics
Race can be a very touchy subject. Rather than shy away from difficult issues, we aim to face them head on. Honestly. We are open to publishing anything, even if it might ruffle some feathers, as long as views are expressed truthfully and through a desire to educate and elevate our collective understanding of the common experience we all share as human beings.
There are two ways human beings learn: though personal experience and by being taught. The best way to understand something is to experience it first hand. Nowhere is this sentiment truer than in understanding the feelings of another person. In order to truly understand someone else’s feelings, we have to experience what they have experienced. Consider the unique bond that exists between firefighters, cancer survivors, and battle-hardened war veterans; and to get to the point at hand: minorities. People with such shared experiences don’t even need to speak. They just know. Or should we say feel? And they feel each other like no one else can.
When it comes to race, we are who we are. Since it is impossible to experience what life is like for another person, race can be a difficult topic to come to terms with. If we can’t be someone else, perhaps the next best thing is to experience something similar and extrapolate. For example, if you are a foreigner in Japan, you’ll experience some things that might be experienced by an Asian in America. Your experience won’t be the same, but it can certainly help you to find common ground. If you do not have such an opportunity, seeing life through the eyes of a friend or loved one of another race can offer some level of understanding. When you see something happen to someone you care about, especially something negative, you feel it in you heart, and that goes a long way towards understanding.
If you are not able to learn through such first hand experiences, then hearing the honest truth as another person sees it is the next best thing. Without personal experience, we simply have to be taught. And to be taught, we need good teachers, good learning material, and good community. So let us be an open forum for honest feelings and truthful discussion. Let us stop trying to be politically correct and talk about what happens in the real world. Let us aim for truth over comfort and discussion rather than conflict. If we can do these things and do them without restraint, we can really make a difference in our level of understanding and help speed the long term evolution to a world where racial and cultural differences are no longer a source of divisiveness, but rather a treasured asset.
If you would like to help our cause, please contact us to find out how you can contribute. It is only though the combined efforts of a diverse group of people that we can expose the truth and create a resource of real value for the world. Let your voice be heard!
