Homestays
We hope to become the most interesting and useful source for information on homestays. While the content on this site should be beneficial for anyone interested in homestays, we target the following audiences: (1) Japanese people interested in doing a homestay abroad or hosting a foreign guest; and (2) Non-Japanese people interested in doing a homestay in Japan or hosting a Japanese guest
Our first goal is to compile a collection of personal stories about homestays. Through these stories, we hope to shed some light on the wonderful experiences and cultural adventures that only homestays make possible. In addition to the many fun and happy stories, we will also share accounts of homestay experiences that were not successful. The accounts of good experiences can be used as a guide for people planning, doing, or hosting a homestay. The not-so-good experiences can also be useful in that they teach us what actions or situations may lead to problems. The key aim is to provide real accounts of real experiences so people know what to expect and how to make the most of their homestay.
When we've collected enough stories, just about anyone considering a homestay will be able to read about the experiences of a person similar to themselves. For example, if you are an American student hoping to do a homestay in Kyoto, Japan, and there are several stories on our site related to homestays in Kyoto, you will likely find a great deal of useful information. You might learn the best places to meet locals interested in talking to foreigners, or on which corner you're likely to catch a glimpse of a Geisha out on the town. If you are an American family that would like to host a Japanese student at your home in Washington, DC, and there are stories of other families who have hosted a student in DC, you might find out which local sites have proved to be the most fun for Japanese visitors.
In addition to the practical benefits mentioned above, reading these real life stories is just plain fun! We sincerely hope you'll enjoy your visit to our site. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make this site better or more useful.
